1. 1st EV from the brand.
2. Showcase in auto expo.
3. Two battery pack options.
India has a massive market. Talking about two wheelers, more than 100 brands are operating. The car market is dominated by Tata. But the largest manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has no EV in their portfolio. So here Maruti has brought a new SUV which is fully electric.
The company has cide named the SUV YY8 internally. The SUV will be based on 27PL 'sketbord' platform which is derived from Toyota's 40PL platform. It means we will see the same SUV at Toyota too. But the Toyota will put its own design language on it.
Dimension wise the all new EV will be same as recently launched Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara but the wheel base of the YY8 EV will be longer. Because the wheels are pushed to corners to insert the big battery pack. This will also enhance the cabin space.
Actually Maruti have already showcased the YY8 concept before two years. Now this time Maruti is going to showcase the SUV in coming auto expo, may be this time they could show the production ready version.
As this is a C segment SUV, it will compete to EVs like Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona and the segment king Tata Nexon EV. To become the segment leader, Maruti should have to keep the price competitive. We expect the price will be 16-20 lakh.
This SUV will come with two battery pack options. One will be a 48kWh which will push the vehicle up to 400km and another will be a 59kWh which can push the SUV up to 500km. The power output is not confirm, it will lie between 160 to 170PS.
